The aim of the article is an analysis of normative changes and a description of the Bank Guarantee Fund’s (BGF) activity in Poland in the years 1995-2020. The analyses are based on normative acts and  BGF’s documentation, including in particular annual reports of the given years under scrutiny. Qualitative assessment of the activities of the Fund and its bodies is based in substantial part on the author’s participant observation as a member of the Fund’s Council and consultations with former members of the Fund’s Management Board. The article finishes with  formulating 15 qualities, or tendencies, of the BGF’s activity over the past 25 years.

The aim of the article is an analysis of the changes in regulation on deposit guarantees. The evolution of the regulation is shown against the background of the history of the Bank Guarantee Fund, an institution which has been responsible for deposit guarantees for the past 25 years in the Polish banking sector. In order for a fuller picture of the role deposit guarantees schemes play in stabilising the banking sector to emerge, the article also presents a short summary of the history of the banking sector in Poland. It describes the rebirth of the Polish banking sector in market economy after 123 years of lack of state independence and its subsequent operation in unfavourable conditions in the interwar period, as well as in planned economy. International circumstances are also taken into account, in particular the role of the United States in implementing the idea of deposit guarantees and the development of guarantee schemes in the world. Particular focus is put on the development of deposit guarantee schemes in Poland and the role of the Bank Guarantee Fund in that system. The article also shows regulatory dilemmas and subsequent novelisations of the directive on deposit guarantee schemes. It also discusses improvements of the banking systems’ stability and deposit protections, both on the level of the European Union and of the state.

The aim of the article is to present the subject of the issue of subordinated debt by the Polish banking sector. The research material in this article is the data contained in the cbond database. The method of observation, source data analysis and the method of deduction were used in the research process. The conducted analysis showed that the increased interest of the banking sector in the issue of subordinated bonds in 2010-2019 resulted from the obligation to meet capital requirements. The article also shows the relationship between the average margin above the WIBOR6M coupon and the average issuance period of the subordinated bonds.

The aim of this study is to provide a description as accurate as possible of the public law aspects of transactions of the acquisition of a qualifying portfolio of shares in a domestic bank and to solve the practical problems that arise in such transactions. The study will consist of two parts; the first part will provide general observations on the issue of acquisition of a qualifying portfolio of shares in a domestic bank as well as present the rationale for why this institution is subject to supervision of the Financial Supervision Authority, and provide detailed characteristics of the institution of notification. The second part of the study will characterize the institution of objection of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority. The study uses the method of dogmatic analysis and economic analysis of law. The analysis led to the conclusion that the solution adopted by the Polish legislator is an effective one, and one that duly protects the interests of the parties to the transaction and, at the same time, the public interest, focusing on the proper and safe functioning of the banking market.

The aim of this paper is to present the main results of the recent "Banking Reputation" study, as well as significant correlations that accompany various levels of reputation score. Empirical research was carried out on a nationwide representative sample of N = 1000 inhabitants of Poland. Interviews were conducted using the CAPI method in February 2020. According to the majority of the population in Poland banks have a good reputation, although there is a fraction which states otherwise. The general reputation index places the banking sector in the area of good reputation second year in a row. Last year banks in Poland managed to limit the quantity of their customers’ negative experiences. Perceived bad publicity was also lower than a year before, however, the level of  customers’ satisfaction also decreased. It is argued that direct customers’ experience with banks positively influences their reputation score.

Our forecasts and forecasts constitute a consensus of the opinions of eminent Polish macroeconomists: mainly current and former banking economists, but also academics and specialists from regulatory institutions, insurance and consulting companies. In the current crisis situation caused by a pandemic and activities aimed at protecting the health and life of the population, forecasts are based more on knowledge and intuition than on formalized statistical and econometric models.
