Cultural barriers to the management of banks controlled by foreign capital in Poland – the importance of ethnocentrism

Abstract

The article presents the importance of cultural barriers, in particular ethnocentrism (both national and institutional), to the management of banks controlled by foreign capital in Poland. It was based on a review of literature and the author’s own studies – interviews with senior executives of banks and other representatives of the banking community. The author tries to show that cultural factors, which have important influence on the results achieved by the banks. The cultural context shouldn’t be considered separately. It must be analysed with other conditionsof bank performance and development. Therefore, a deterministic manner isn’t
recommended, but it is supposed the holistic approach to this research field.
